The Worcester Cannery provides an inexpensive way to can dry goods (beans, sugar, dry milk, dried onions, etc) that will last in storage for many years.  A great way to set aside food for a rainy day.See More

Hi Kelly,

Notification about discussion activity in your group works similarly to the system for the Forum. It is not controlled on your personal settings page, but rather with a feature on the page listing all discussions for the site (the main Forum), or the page showing all discussions for a particular group.

Start by reading this discussion in the Forum, and actually locate the Notify / Stop Notifying toggle. Then go to the page for Transition Towns Worcester Initiative Discussions. The only difference for groups is that the toggle is named Follow / Stop Following.

Just as on the main Forum, the first toggle is only for being notified about new discussions. You also have to opt in to be notified about replies to each discussion. If you reply to a discussion, the Follow option is automatically turned on.

This may seem unnecessarily complicated, but the designers of the Ning system chose to not automatically flood your inbox with notifications. I follow all discussions on the Forum and in the discussion area for every group on the site, and it does not seem onerous.

Also note that all members of your Group who want to follow discussions will have to turn on notifications for the system to work effectively. You can always send a message to every member of the group using the Send Message to Group feature on the group page. That message will go to each member's email inbox, but will not be saved on the site.

I hope this is helpful. Don't hesitate to ask for more if anything is not clear.

Cheers,

Conrad

Hi, Kelley - Thanks for connecting! I'd love to learn more about your work.
We had a wonderful "Training for Transition" in Chinatown last weekend. We'll have another in western MA in February (weekend not finalized yet). In the meantime, it would be great to talk if you'd like.
My home office: 413-863-5253. Feel free to call anytime. (I'm gone tomorrow and Friday.)
Happy Thanksgiving.

As site administrator I encourage everyone to participate in the exchange of ideas found in the Forum. To learn how to most easily follow discussions on the Forum, please read my post (in the Forum) titled "Let's Strengthen our Transition Massachusetts community." Click here to view that post directly. Implementing the simple changes described will make it easier to follow and participate in the conversations on this site, thereby nurturing our growing statewide Transition community.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
