Hi folks!I'm writing to you with a request for assistance. Dr. Guy McPherson (a conservation biologist and professor emeritus at the University of Arizona) is a friend of mine who speaks and writes on the topic of climate change and the importance of creating durable living arrangements. He's coming to Massachusetts from approximately Nov. 25 to Dec. 5 (although I don't think he's pinned it down precisely yet). I'm helping him to identify possible venues for him to speak. I think his…See More
"Just so you all know, I'm not sure that anyone in Transition Northampton is regularly monitoring this site. (I think some of the folks currently doing active outreach may not even be subscribed to this site at all.) I'm not…"
Rex Tillerson, CEO of ExxonMobil was selected at this year's WPI graduation ceremony. WPI Students for a Just and Stable Future and many others were deeply opposed to this choice and what it represents for their future. After three contentious weeks, they are glad to announce that they've arranged for an alternate commencement address right after the official ceremony and that WPI is on board with the arrangements.Richard Heinberg, Senior Fellow in Residence at the Post Carbon Institute will be…See More
How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I helped initiate Transition Northampton. Also, I'm a board member of Grow Food Northampton and actively working towards creating a community farm in town. Also involved in the Western MA Permaculture Guild.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I have been looking at issues relating to peak oil and climate change for the past few years. I need to take action. I need to be with others who believe that we must do what we can, as soon as possible, to mitigate the worst effects, and to keep our eyes on the bigger picture: meaningful connection, meaningful lives, reverence for the natural world, creating a livable future for our children.

Hello Jen, Friday noon would work better for me, than Thursday 11. We can eat around here in South Amherst (where I work - sandwiches, pizza, chinese), or I can bike to town. I don't know if it shows, but you can send me an email on firstname.lastname@example.org too.
Hey Jen, Likewise! Well, I'm researching pressure canners right now, about to invest in a huge one so I can move from mere hobby canning to serious food preservation. It's really better a shared community tool, but I'm going to take the plunge and buy one now and have it as a barterable tool.
I'm also researching the best tools to use for stitching leather (without killing my hands). Suggestions? John is looking into take a welding class.
What else? I'm teaching my kids to love scavenging and gleaning. I've got more to learn about seed-saving. I need to get "Where there is no Doctor" (or the best, latest equivalent--suggestions?
Hey Jen, Good to see you here! It seems like a great networking site. I'm looking forward to inviting more on it and seeing it grow. John (hub) is learning blacksmithing this weekend. I've been tapping maple trees in the n'hood. Little efforts at skill-building...good place to start.
