Just found out about this movie from an affiliated group in Somerville: Bag It The Movie and thought you would be interested. We have done community screenings of movies at the Public LIbrary and in other venues in town in the past.

Welcome to Transition Massachusetts and please feel free to join the Transition Newburyport group.
To respond to your request for advice on working with the children on the plastic bag issue I have several thoughts:
1. Check out the Fostering Sustainable Behavior website. You can run a search for plastic bags and it will find information about plastic bag projects that have been tried in other communities.... http://www.cbsm.com/public/world.lasso
2. Last year I heard of a cub scout troop that was working with Molly Ettenborough of the City of Newburyport on a plastic bag project ... not sure if anything came of it, but you might check with her. Molly is the sustainability coordinator for the city.
3. I am sharing a link to a TEDx video I recently discovered titled The World Becomes What You Teach. When Zoe Weil talks about making a whole semester of study on plastic bottles, it makes the possibilities endless. Could one do a whole interdisciplinary study unit on paper bags? How are they manufactured ... what are the environmental and social impacts .... field study of the % of people at the grocery store who use plastic/paper/cloth .... interviews to find out why people do or do not use plastic bags ... how many end up in landfills ... art projects making things out of used plastic bags or making cloth bags ... making a video to show on local access ... writing a press release to the local paper .... what do baggers at the grocery store like or dislike about plastic bags .....
I hope this is helpful.
