At home we had already installed a rain barrel and low flow shower heads and toilets so what would be the next move? When I was a child we had a rain water collection tank in our attic that supplied water to all the toilets and sinks other than the…

So for my Thursday, my family decided to pass the flu along to me, after all caring is sharing. It does bring up an interesting question though, "what happens to our green efforts when we get sick or just to busy?" I know, I have the tendency to jus…

Tuesday transportation turned out to be easier than I thought. Newburyport is a fairly compact city and I live only 1/2 mile from downtown, so I can walk to a farmstand, convenience store, library, bank, drug store, movie or restaurant easily. It's…

Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I have read the Transition Handbook and attended an organizational meeting of the Hamilton-Wenham transition group. I am educating myself and plan to be involved in initiating the transition movement in the city of Newburyport.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I have long been interested in environmental issues but was unaware of the Peak Oil phenomena. I believe that the Transition movement gives us a mechanism to be actively involved in our own local communities to make meaningful changes that will improve the environment and prepare us for a non or greatly reduced fossil fuel world.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
I plan to educate myself and others and to help in the formation of the transition movement in my city.

Hey, well all of the currents projects you listed sounded great! I just recently returned home from an environmental leadership camp with the Student Sierra Coalition, and one night we had a whole presentation on peak oil and then permaculture. I'm so interested in continuously learning new things, so I have no specific issues I would like to focus on. Unfortunatly, as excited as I was for the farmers' market, I always work sundays so I have been unable to go. This is probably why I had not heard of Transition Newburyport yet. I also just recently have been reading more about oct. 24, and 350, and would love to help out in any way. With the high school enviro club, I would really like to work on trying to get composting, and in addition, biodegradable trays, replacing the styrofoam ones. It's a work in progress, but I would love to get the school involved with Transition Newburyport also.

Hi Elizabeth
I heard about you AT the Farmers' Market. I was there for the first time and walking around I found your booth.
I'm not sure how to get involved, but figured a journey of 1000 miles starts with one step, so here's my first step.
I am happy to learn more and do my part..
Thanks for getting in touch.
