Nora, RE: you comments about Clark vs. Worcester. You may want to consider two separate groups, since students and local residents are very different constituencies. What do you think?

Hi everyone! My apologies for not keeping in touch lately, I've been pretty ill with the flu.

Nora,
I changed the name of the group as per your suggestion. I wasn't sure how much interest there would be with a general Worcester group, therefore I chose to put it under the Clark category to start.

All,
I will be around up until the 18th of December. I will be graduating and moving back to NYC after that time. I hope to meet you all and to keep in touch after I go back to NY. My hope is to start creating some dialog in my community in NYC to see if I can get them to hop on board. It seems a bit daunting as NYC is HUGE and very much addicted to oil, but I am hopeful.

I made a few of you admins to the group. If anyone else is interested in becoming an admin in the group, just send me a quick message and I'd be happy to add you to the admin list.

Having a TT group for the Worcester area is imperative with the interest and passion that is in the city -- would it be better to have our group not labeled under Clark University as it may detrack some Worcester residents from joining the group? Before we invite other's to join, should we shift this name to Worcester?

Hey Everyone, My name is Nora Oliver -- I do go to Clark and helped organize a great event last week called Shaping a Local Green Economy, a dialogue for the future of Worcester. With over 150 people all from local Worcester iniatives, non-profits, and colleges/universities; many of these folks desire a "what's next step" -- A friend of mine, Stephen and I have talked much about turning this "what's next for Worcester" in to a Transitions Worcester initiative. We would love to have a gather in December -- Maybe the week of Dec 14-18th? What dates would people be interested in/available for -- A professor at Clark is helping out securing the first meet up site that would then travel around the different neighborhoods... I am so excited to see all the interest!! :) Let's all keep in touch! Let me know what dates people would like to get together for.. potluck?

I don't go to Clark (I go to Assumption), but this seems to be the only worcester group, so hi, everybody!

Les,
Thank you as well for your insightful comment! I will most certainly do so. I extend the same invitation to you. I think the event will be a great way to really go forward with the creation of the TT initiative in Worcester.

Hi Carol,
Thank you so much for your post. I apologize for the delay in my response. College is getting quite hectic right now as the semester is coming to an end. I am very happy to hear that you are interested in actually getting this started in the area of Worcester. As you live so close by, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to an event that is taking place here at Clark on Wednesday November 18, 2009 from 7:00-9:00pm in Tilton Hall in the Higgins University Center. Below is a description of the event "Shaping a Local Green Economy" That would possibly be an ideal time to begin gathering names of people interested!

What can and will a local, green economy look like? Many social change organizations, institutions and individuals in Worcester are committed to creating a green economy here. Concerns include the importance of green job creation and the potential for environmental work to promote social equity and a more dependable economic system; the application of research models for energy innovation; and the economic and political benefits of Worcester and central Massachusetts as a green cluster.

Members of various local initiatives will share their perspectives in a conversation about the common goal of shaping a local green economy here in Worcester. Visionary entrepreneur Omar Freilla of Green Worker Co-ops in the Bronx (invited) will discuss his work promoting environmental justice and workplace democracy. Comments from Sarah Assefa of the Green Jobs Coalition, members of the new Institute for Energy Innovation and Sustainability (IEIS), the Regional Environmental Council and others from government and business will follow. There will be an opportunities for dialogue in small groups, and in the group as a whole, with light food provided.
