Thanks for the link, Steven. This season we started experimenting with jerusalem artichoke, sea kale, chinese yam, manzanilla, turkish rocket (no-go), wood nettle, ostrich fern, chinese artichokes, groundnut, good king henry, "profusion" sorrel and hablitzia in our community garden. None to split yet but we hope to share the wealth in a few years.
Were you able to get the hablitzia going? For 2 years I bought some starter plants and they died off on me.
So far, so good, Steven. It seems to be going great guns once it got established and is rooting where the vine touches the ground. We'll see how it does through the fall and over the winter.

Sun or Shade?
Was it tasty?
Do you eat it raw or cooked?

It was just a newbie so we didn't harvest it too much. Just a few raw leaves in the garden. I liked it. We are growing it in the shade.

Hi all! There is a site called northeastern permaculture network which is a very weird mix of wikispaces, ning, and a rise up listserve called northeastern permaculture. I live in Somerville. Does anyone want annual ryegrass and/or medium red clover? -Good cover crops and good for the fall.
Will rise up accept more than one email address from me? If I want to join listserve above and also
listserve on northeastern permaculture network?
Jen
Jen, you can definitely subscribe to more than one riseup list.... I'm on a few, like NortheasternPermaculture and Pioneer_Valley_Wild_Foods.

Am I doing something wrong? I signed up, but I only see two posts, haven't received anything and can't find the "let me add my 2 cents" button.

Here's the 2 cents I'd like added:
I really like the idea of permaculture and getting it spread far and wide. I'd be interested in apprenticeship or otherwise partnering with permaculture designer while learning. Also, we have an acre of wooded area (you guessed it, I live in a suburb) and I'd love to get some ideas about how it can yield more food (and water?) for us.

I figure my degree in math could be handy for some permaculture business out there.... ?
Alex - there are only 9 subscribers so far. so not alot of traffic. (only 1 week)

Try posting to easternmapermaculture@lists.riseup.net

If you don't get you message bounced back in day, let me know here and I'll check out the list.
Um... just finally subscribed to northeastern permaculture..I tried to sign onto eastern permaculture but it seems to think I already did it- but there is no message saying I am officially subscribed...huh? am I missing something?

Hi Alex -
Have you discovered some of the basic books currently available for learning more about permaculture; i.e., Gaia's Garden, Introduction to Permaculture, Edible Forest Gardens? That is always a good place to start learning. There are also some wonderful permaculture meetup groups in New England .... just go to meetup.com and search for permaculture ... the Boston Urban Homesteaders League Meet-up also does a lot of workshops relevant to permaculture approaches.

Thanks Elizabeth. I had done a search for books, but w/ your recommendation, I'll move those to the top of my to-read-list. I'll also get on Meet-up.
