Transition Massachusetts

Because I'll be able to edit this opener, I plan to report here on each open house I host... and I suppose I could paste in reports from other hosts if/when.

11/14/10 in Woburn

We had a good number of guests... 3 -- and they can cook!  None of them knew each other and one was new to me, too, at least in person. Time flew.

Sitting around a table, we shared about foods, recent experiences and learning, job hunting strategies, my house and property, Putney, Vermont and family.  One departed to attend a birthday party of a relative turning 100.  Another departed to investigate a transition-y firm he'd discovered.

I'd like to offer this monthly, but have doubts about December.  I'm on the fence about it.

1/30/11 in Woburn

I had a good number of guests...8 -- and they, too, can cook!  Only two of us attended the November open house.  Most of us had never met.  There were two shifts and 6:30 was not the end time.

Sitting around one table or another, still few enough to have one discussion rather than various conversations, we got acquainted and explored a variety of transition topics.  One of us aims to start farming, two of us are working on a weekend retreat invitation and process, two are looking for promising next steps toward sustainability in which to invest their attention, time and energy, and two are raising a daughter.

I'll choose a Feburary date soon.  It's tricky because of travel plans.

Aim for early december?
David, would it be helpful if we rotated the open houses?

I would love to hold an open house here in Wayland, which is more south and east than Woburn.

I would have to hold it in January, as I'll be gone for most of December.

Would anyone be interested?

I like to host open houses; my questions are entirely December-specific, because of the parties, preparations and holidays. That said, I encourage you/anyone to announce any event you want to produce. Being personally available and making space available for gatherings are surely good for our scattered community.
