Event Description

Film Screening: Vanishing of the Bees
Come See What the Buzz is About!
Monday, June 13, 2011, Union Square, Somerville

Join us at SCATV at 7:30 for a reception and screening of the film Vanishing of the Bees, narrated by Ellen Page.  This documentary examines the alarming disappearance of honeybees and the greater meaning it holds about the relationship between humankind and Mother Earth.  Following commercial beekeepers David Hackenberg and Dave Mendes as they strive to keep their bees healthy and fulfill pollination contracts across the U.S., the film explores the mystery of Colony Collapse Disorder, the phenomenon that has brought beekeepers to crisis in an industry responsible for producing apples, broccoli, watermelon, onions, cherries and a hundred other fruits and vegetables.

Prior to the film, join us for a party outside in Union Sq. from 4-7pm to kick-off a new community campaign.  You can join the 350 Actions Challenge by taking a new step to help make Somerville a cleaner, greener and healthier place to live!  We'll be tracking progress across the city and celebrating our accomplishments at the end of the year.

Sponsored by Rep. Denise Provost, Somerville Climate Action, Somerville Community Growing Center, and SCATV.  For more information: www.somervilleclimateaction.org
